We have carefully planned a trekking schedule based on our decades of experience, which will guarantee appropriate acclimatization, optimize your enjoyment, and securely return you to the capital city for your trip home.Although we try to follow the daily schedule listed below, when trekking in isolated areas, adaptability is essential. Changes may be required due to weather, road closures, and other unanticipated events. You may be confident that our knowledgeable guides and support staff will make every effort to modify the schedule with the least amount of inconvenience possible so that your trekking experience runs smoothly.

Trekking and adventure vacations require flexibility and an open mind. Extreme weather, difficult terrain, and uncontrollable last-minute itinerary changes are all possible for participants. Making the most of this amazing journey requires a spirit of exploration and teamwork.

Usually taking up to 14 days to finish, the K2 Base Camp Trek is a rewarding but difficult journey that allows for adequate acclimation to the high elevations. We advise a slower, well-paced approach to thoroughly enjoy the breathtaking vistas of the Baltoro Glacier, Concordia, and the towering peaks of the Karakoram, though physically fit trekkers may choose a shorter length. Every traveler’s safety, comfort, and making lifelong memories are our top priorities at K2 Adventure Guide.

We will journey through farms and summer towns, taking in the breathtaking contrast of bleak cliffs and verdant fields. Optional treks surrounding Paiju allow you to explore the nearby slopes and see panoramic views of the Baltoro Glacier. This is also a good day to go over glacier trekking methods and make sure your gear—particularly your boots and gaiters—is ready.

8

  • Altitude: 3,788 meters
  • Trekking Time: 6–7 hours
  • Distance: 14.8KM

We take our first formal steps onto the massive Baltoro Glacier, a 60-kilometer-long ice river. The trail alternates between moraines, frozen spots, and rocky outcrops. Trekking through this landscape is an amazing experience, with views of Trango Towers, Uli Biaho, and other granite giants rising spectacularly from the ice. The camp is located on a lateral moraine at Khoburtse, surrounded by rocky peaks. The mood is raw and exhilarating, reminiscent of the Karakoram wilderness.

Trek to Urdukas from Khoburtse

  • Altitude: 3,905 meters
  • Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
  • Distance: 6.4KM

Nights here are chilly yet spectacular, with stars reflecting off the ice and peaks sparkling in the moonlight.

The sheer magnificence of this region, with glaciers flowing in all directions and snow-capped giants towering overhead, leaves every trekker awestruck.

Trek to Broad Peak BC, Gilkey Memorial and K2 Base Camp

On this Day GPS Data Return time K2 BC (5,155m) + Gilkey (5,230m)+ Broad Peak (4,844m): 10-12 hours Return time Broad BC (4,844m): 6-7 hours

Details:

Today, there is an option to walk up the Godwin-Austen glacier to the Art Gilkey Memorial (an American geologist and mountaineer) immediately before K2 Base Camp. This is a long, yet amazing day. We will leave early in the morning, crossing the glaciers and following the thin track towards K2. As we follow the glacier towards K2, the peak appears to get bigger and greater. Broad Peak rises to our right, and after about three hours, we cross Broad Peak base camp. We normally stop here for lunch before continuing on with K2 towering over us as we approach closer.

The Art Gilkey Memorial is located just before base camp, among the boulders and ice strewn landscape. A little scramble takes us to the location where those whose lives K2 claimed are remembered. Plaques and etched tin plates are affixed to a small rocky outcrop at the base of this massive mountain. There are excellent views of K2 immediately above us, and we may even see some climbing excursions. We spent the night in K2’s base camp.

  • Altitude: 4,300 meters
  • Trekking Time: 6-7 hours
  • Distance: 15.9KM

Details:

After experiencing the emotional high of reaching K2 Base Camp, we begin retracing our steps. The return to Goro II allows us to take in the views we may have missed on our way north. The view is different now, with the big peaks casting longer shadows and the glacier exposing new patterns. This day is also a physical challenge because your body is tired after the high point of the trek, but the downward route and altitude drop aid in recovery. Campsite setup is now faster, and your friendship with the crew grows stronger over warm tea and evening discussions beneath the stars.

14

  • Trekking Time: 6–7 hours

Fly to your home country

Details

It’s the last day in Pakistan after a wonderful trip. We will drop you off at the airport so you may fly back home with many happy memories.

K2 is located in the Karakoram mountain range, which stretches across the borders of Pakistan and China. It lies in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan near the border with China.

K2 is the second-highest mountain in the world, standing at an incredible 8611 meters (28251 feet) above sea level. It is also known as the “Savage Mountain” because of its extreme difficulty and challenging weather conditions.

K2 Adventure Guide is based in Askoli, Pakistan. We provide guided treks, tours, and climbing expeditions in the Karakoram mountain range. Since we are local, we possess our own team, transport, hotels, and gear. This facilitates us to provide you with the finest service at an affordable cost.

European tours are costly. They pay in Euros or Dollars and do not have offices or staff in Pakistan. They are middlemen and tend to cancel tours if fewer than expected people participate. But with us, your tour is 100% guaranteed — even if only one person is coming.

We are actually the people who will welcome you, guide you, and accompany you from beginning to end. Not names behind an email.

We always emphasize quality and safety for you. We also give back to local people and communities with each trip. When you travel with K2 Adventure Guide, you get to enjoy the trip and help others as well.

Come with us and have a true adventure with heart.

We offer the flexibility of organizing solo treks for those whose dates do not align with our scheduled departures or for those who relish the solitude of hiking alone (accompanied by a guide, as per government regulations).

It’s important to note that solo treks incur higher costs compared to group treks. However, it’s important to understand that a journey to K2 necessitates the presence of a guide and significantly porters (even if not explicitly requested by the guest). This is due to legal requirements mandating that guides cannot carry any equipment; thus, porters are essential for transporting tents, food supplies, equipment, gas, personal belongings, and even supplies for the porters themselves throughout the 12-14 day expedition.

During our fixed departure trips, participants travel in groups, but on the trail, each individual often walks independently. The guide typically follows behind the last person of the group, with an assistant or porter leading the way. The gap between the first and last person can extend up to 1-2 hours. Importantly, there’s no pressure to rush, as treks along the Baltoro are lengthy, allowing everyone to set their own comfortable pace.”

It is usual that participants show their gratitude to the diligent porters who carry loads of luggage and supplies along the trek. In case participants feel satisfied with the services of the guide, kitchen staff, and assistant(s), a contribution of 95-120 Euros (or equivalent in your currency) would be sufficient to cover the total expense for this facet. The tour leader or guide will also be responsible for ascertaining the correct tip amount for all staff and crew personnel participating in our trek.

At the end of the trip, there will be a ‘thank you’ ceremony with participants able to deliver their tips personally. Early-departing porters will receive their tips accordingly before they leave.

During this trek all three meals including breakfast lunch and dinner will be served to the participants. A combination of Foreign and Pakistani meals will be included in our food plan. The ingredients for the food will be procured in Pakistan. Breakfasts will have coffee cereal tea, eggs, muesli/porridge, bread/chapatti included. Lunches will be consumed during lunch breaks on the trek with options include canned/tinned meals (meat, fish) pickles, crackers, chapatti, pate, cheese etc. Weather has a very important role in deciding our lunch menu for the day the participants will begin the lunch with consuming or end it with tea or coffee, juice, soup etc.

The dinner will always be served in the mess tent and the participants will gather to eat the food freshly prepared by the cooks travelling with our group. The first few days of the trekking, fresh vegetables will be served in food as long as they are fresh and healthy. All the participants who are vegetarian, they must communicate with our office and inform us on advance basis if they need a vegetarian food plan during the trek.

During the trek, Iodized water will be available for the participants throughout the mornings, while taking breaks and camping. Everyone will be consuming spring water every time its available otherwise if we run out of options the participants may drink glacier water that possibly have silt. The kitchen containers which are very large in size are used to keep the water storage and it is also helpful in settling down the silt particles at the bottom. If any participants have any issue with odor of iodine, they may bring their own supplies of bi-carbonated soda. Traditional methods are effective and work very well for everyone there is no harm in the experimentation of new methods.

Before you travel please check the travel advice from your country’s official website. If you are from the EU you can find useful information on the European Commission Travel Advice page. If you are from another country, please visit your own government foreign travel website.

Some countries may say it’s not allowed to drive on the Karakoram Highway but this advice is sometimes outdated. In case your flight to Skardu is cancelled, you may need to travel by road. This means you’ll take the Karakoram Highway and then the Gilgit–Skardu Road from Jaglot (near Gilgit).

Yes, a few equipments (e.g. crampons, mountaineering boots, harness, climbing helmet etc) can be rented and purchased in Skardu town but it is not guaranteed that you will find the right size or the right price. The few mountain equipment stores in Skardu wait all year long to sell/rent these equipments at the best price possible. These equipments are used/second-hand equipments available in the market and not always reliable. The rents for these equipments are not fixed. If we are informed in advance, we can make arrangements.

The trekking season in the Karakoram mountains of Pakistan typically blesses travelers with mostly sunny skies and clear weather during the summer months. Unlike the Everest base camp trek we are spared from a monsoon season meaning rain is infrequent. However given the unpredictable nature of mountain weather brief downpours and storms are a possibility. Additionally conditions can vary significantly from one region to another.

Islamabad the starting point of our adventure experiences hot and humid conditions between May and September with the potential for monsoon rains during this period. Daytime temperatures average around 44°C (97°F), while nighttime lows hover around 29°C (75°F).

Skardu, the capital of the Baltistan region, sits at an elevation of 2300 meters resulting in higher daytime temperatures and lower humidity compared to Islamabad. Nights in Skardu are cooler and more comfortable. Dust can be prevalent along the main bazaar route due to the nearby Sarfaraga and Katpana cold deserts often accompanied by strong winds and dust storms. July marks the peak of summer in Skardu with average daytime temperatures reaching 32°C (80.4°F) and nighttime lows dropping to 12°C (50°F). The high altitude amplifies the intensity of the sun’s rays, potentially making it feel warmer than the actual temperature.

We strongly advise packing for a wide range of climates, from the hot humid conditions of Islamabad to the fluctuating temperatures, dust and winds of Skardu. Be sure to bring clothing that offers warmth, dryness, and protection during the hike. As your departure date approaches, we will provide you with a detailed packing list tailored specifically for the K2 and Gondogoro La trek.

Your fitness level will play a crucial role in determining your preparedness for this trekking holiday. Prior to embarking on this journey, it is advisable to focus on improving your aerobic fitness and strength endurance. While the ascent is gradual, anticipate spending approximately five to eight hours on the trail each day.

To gauge whether additional training is necessary, consider undertaking a few extended day treks in mountainous terrain near your location. These practice hikes will provide valuable insight into your current fitness level and highlight areas that may require improvement before tackling the K2 and Gondogoro La trek.

We provide high-quality stays in 3/4 star international-standard hotels in both Islamabad and Skardu. These centrally located hotels have air-conditioned rooms and in-house restaurants with tasty meals.

During the K2 and Gondogoro La trek two people will share hotel rooms and tents. Solo travelers will be paired with someone of the same gender. From Askoli onward we use strong, comfortable tents spacious enough for two tall people to sleep with ease.

If you prefer your own space, you can request:

  • A single hotel room for $200 (2 nights)

  • A private tent for $150 (entire trek)

We recommend flying into Islamabad Airport the main international gateway for the trek. To adjust to the time zone and allow flexibility for delays please arrive one day before the trek starts. Our team will greet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. If you arrive more than 2 days early, we can arrange pickup for an extra $100 (same for late departures).

Expect mostly sunny and clear skies during your trek especially in July and August the best months for stable and pleasant weather.

However, mountain weather can change quickly. At higher altitudes in the Karakoram, you may face strong winds, rain, or even snow, so it’s important to be prepared.

Temperatures can vary a lot days are often warm, but nights can drop well below freezing, especially near the glacier. We recommend packing several layers so you can adjust easily as conditions change and as you go higher.

Most days involve 5 to 8 hours of walking. Some days may be longer depending on trail conditions.

You’ll need proper trekking boots with a good grip. Make sure you’ve used them before — no new shoes!

All overnight stays during the trek are in tents. You’ll sleep in a hotel before and after the trek.

You’ll have signal in Skardu and Askole, but after that, there’s no regular coverage.

It can be. Your guides will watch for symptoms and adjust the pace. Having a rest day and drinking enough water really helps.

Yes — it should cover high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation by helicopter.

You’ll carry your daypack only. The rest of your gear will be carried by porters or mules.

This trek is remote and challenging. It’s highly recommended to go with a trusted guide or tour company.

Yes, our treks are safe for women traveling alone. We put the safety and comfort of all of our walkers first, making sure that everyone feels welcome and supported

For most people, the most luggage they can bring on the trip is about 15 kilograms. We suggest that you bring only the most important things with you.

People who want to go on the K2 Base Camp Trek in Pakistan will need a Pakistani Trekking and mountaineering visa. The trekking visa is different from the standard tourist visa, thus you will NOT be applying for a tourist visa. Depending on their country and the route of their trek they may also need other permits.
Do you need to have done a trip before the K2 Base Camp trip?

It’s good to have done some trekking before, but it’s not necessary. You should be in good physical shape and emotionally ready for high-altitude trekking, though.
we have had a 100% success rate when it comes to our clients getting their visas on time a record we are very proud of!

The package includes all meals, accommodation, and domestic transfers as outlined in the itinerary.

During the first part of the trek up to Urdukas Camp, fresh running water is available, and you can wash or take a shower freely.

After Urdukas, due to cold and high-altitude conditions, showers are not recommended until you return to Urdukas or reach Saicho on the way back.

We do provide portable showers throughout the trek. If you wish to take a shower or need warm water, feel free to ask your guide anytime.

At lower altitudes up to Urdukas Camp basic toilet facilities are available.

Beyond Urdukas, on the glacier, we provide toilet tents at most camps. However, please note that in some high camps, toilets may not be in perfect condition due to the remote and harsh environment.

Our team does its best to ensure cleanliness and comfort throughout the trek.

In the first few days of the trek, we use clean spring water, which is also boiled for added safety.

On the glacier, we collect glacier water, boil it, and make it available for trekkers to fill their bottles at each camp.

We also provide water purification tablets and filters for extra safety. Trekkers are welcome to bring their own purifiers too.

We recommend bringing two reusable water bottles and avoiding disposable plastic bottles to help protect the environment.

Yes, Pakistan is generally a safe and welcoming destination for international tourists. While certain border areas near Afghanistan are restricted or advised against for travel, the majority of the country is open peaceful and known for its generous hospitality especially toward visitors.

One of the safest and most scenic areas is the Gilgit-Baltistan region in the north, home to the Karakoram mountains and world-famous trekking routes. This area has an extremely low crime rate with some districts recording virtually no criminal activity at all.

Participants of the K2 Base Camp Trek will spend nearly their entire journey about 17 to 18 days in Gilgit-Baltistan, where local communities are known for their friendliness and respect for travelers.

We always encourage our guests to check their country’s travel advice before visiting and to stay informed. You’ll also find plenty of real-life stories and reviews online from recent visitors who’ve had unforgettable and safe adventures in Pakistan.

Become a part of our stress-free experiences with our all-inclusive packages! We take care of everything starting with your transportation and accommodation, meals, and guided experiences to make your trip really unforgettable. The adventure is made easy for you and it’s just what you need!

Small and Mixed Groups
Our groups are small. It’s because we value and secure the safety and the quality of the experience more than the quantity of the group. On average, we are joined by equal parts of men and women who are originally from different countries a long way from the USA.

Remote Destinations
Walk through the enchanted beauty of the world’s most dark, rainless places. The place you very seldom find. Mountains and valleys have come from the majestic and (a) peaceful valley of the meadow. Trails were walks they had been secreting in the woods inviting no one else in except Thee. Step out from the dull!

Knowledge & Experience
Having spent years in the area and knowing it on the back of their hands, our team assures safe, smooth, and unforgettable adventures every time. Count on us to show you the way with enthusiasm and professionalism, making each journey a story you will want to tell.

Socially Responsible
Our pledge is to explore the world while contributing to its enhancement. Our journeys are created in a way that they could be the source of active support for local communities, environmental conservation, as well as sustainable tourism initiatives. We hope you will come along with us in traveling; yes, our journey does affect the world; let’s be responsible and turn our effects into positives!

We provide charging facilities during the trek by carrying a petrol generator and/or solar panels, allowing team members to recharge phones, power banks, camera batteries, and other essential devices. The generator is typically run each evening for 3 to 4 hours, offering a reliable window to power up your equipment. We carry the generator throughout the trek; however, there are a few days after crossing the Gondogoro La pass when it won’t be available, as the mules transporting it cannot cross the high altitude pass. During this period, we recommend bringing fully charged power banks or portable solar chargers to stay powered.
